Athens, Day 3

Kate's flight arrived at about 11am this morning, and while Emma worked on rearranging all her luggage so she only had to bring one bag to the islands, I went downstairs to wait for Kate. About 12:45 I was a little concerned she couldn't find the hotel, so I went back up to the room, and as I was about to set out in Plaka in search of her, she showed up at our door.

Since this was the only day all 4 of us were in Athens, we headed over to visit the Acropolis. We were all pretty hungry, so we stopped by a restaurant on Kydathineon and got some gyros (Danny was disappointed to find his vegetarian one had no falafel). After lunch, we got some soft-serve, and headed up through the southeast entrance by the Theater of Dionysos. We got our tickets, and I somehow managed to get a student discount despite not being from the EU ("I don't even know why I brought my student ID," I famously declared earlier).

We walked up past the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, through the Propylaia, and up into the Acropolis. We checked out the Parthenon, the Caryatids, the Erectheion, took in the view over Athens. It was pretty hot, so we went back down, passed the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian's Arch. Walking back along Leof Vasilissis Amalias St., we found a small excavation of an ancient building, right in the middle of a sidewalk--it was pretty cool.

We went back to the hotel for a bit, then went for dinner at a very un-Greek like time of 7 or so. The restaurant was nearly empty as a result. The food was decent, but the conversation the best, as Danny came up with his tale of Nogreenbeania, something that could never be repeated in a way to do it justice.

We retired to our hotel early, since we had to get up for the ferry ride to Naxos.
